Who's On The Block?

1) As promised Monday, here is a first look at who may be most likely to be on the move by the February 26th Trade deadline. We will list ALL 30 teams(in alpha order) and list whom we are hearing are MOST likely to be wearing a different sweater February 27th.(Kris Beech does not count!) As we mentioned earlier this week, right now it doesn't appear we will have too many 'blockbusters', but that of course as we get closer to the deadline, and GM's who feel they have a shot to either make the post season or challenge for the Cup may get an itchy trigger finger. Also NOT every player listed WILL be traded.

Please tell me we're not going to trade Tanguay! We need him for the playoffs. Trade him after the season instead!
Nice list though guys!

1)Puff: As we wrote a couple of weeks ago, your wish is more likely than a deadline deal, but he WILL be in play if the right deal is offered Sutter

I believe your first instinct that there won't be many blockbuster trades is spot on. As I mention on my blog I don't think too many of the outlandish rumors that some have been pushing will pan out on February 26th. By and large its going to be filled with minor deals with a couple of moderately larger one, but few if any huge moves. Those are generally made at the draft

Trades, what are they???

One more thing. Lyle where is your blog that you mention? I would love to read and link to it.

I think this is most reasonable list of this sort I can remember seeing.

As a Caps fan, let me say how much I appreciate that Olie Kolzig is NOT on here, b/c I don't think there's any way they deal him.

FAUX RUMORS said...

1)DMG: Kolzig is going NO where! Its 70:30 he'll get a new one year deal. Possibly with a club option for a second year
2) Hooks: Very true! Trades at the deadline, and in general are becoming scarcer and scarcer

I think there's a very good chance that Kolzig will be offered a contract like the one you described, but I think there's a chance he would decline it. This is because while I think the Capitals would like to have him for his leadership and marketing, I doubt they want to rely on him given that he has the worst save % in the NHL.

On the other hand if Kolzig wants to play Washington is his best bet, because I dont think anyone else is going to sign him to be their starter after this year (unless he has a great last two months) and I cant see him leaving DC after all these years to back up somewhere else.

With regard to the Washington Capitals, who the hell would want Matt Pettinger??? He's evolved into an AHL caliber winger... Steve Eminger probably could get a bite or two, but the Caps have not done an adequate job showcasing him... Faux, have you considered the possibility of Alexander Semin being on the block? While he is highly talented offensively, his attitude is bad and he's a liablility in his defensive zone EVERY shift... I also do not like the fact that he takes many dumb penalties...

FAUX RUMORS said...

1) Antz: Pettinger has had decent offensive seasons prior to this one. An oppoistion GM might take a chance on him. The caps won't get much more than a 2nd round pick in return
2) Eminger is abit of an enigma. Was a high 1st round pick. he's still reletively young. We could see the caps getting something back for him as well.
3) Now Semin is another issue. You may have a poiint here. he's being paid 5 mil next year. thats 1st lije money. he plays left wing. he's NOT going to be the 1st line LW as long as #8 is on the team(13 more years) so it may be a good idea for GMGM to shop the Russian. The return should be pretty ample as Semn scored near 40 last year

Faux, you call Eminger an enigma... Is Semin NOT an enigma? One shift, he's Crosby-like... And the next, he couldn't care less whether he has skates on or not...
