2) The Caps have been playing on a seemingly razor's thin edge for the past 2 months to even make the post season. For all intents and purposes their 'first round series was an arduous late season 6 game road trip in which they were forced to win 5 of 6 just to stay in playoff contention. Following this they had their 'second round' where they had to sweep their final 3 home games to qualify for the playoffs. From there they dug themselves a hole by falling behind the Flyers 3 games to 1, but as they have since our Adams candidate Bruce Boudreau took over, fought back valiantly to force a Game 7, and worked hard through obvious injuries to almost their entire defense corps.
3) The team led by our Hart candidate Alex Ovechkin had become the bandwagon favourites of many pundants. They were the exciting Cinderella story of these playoffs and as such received quite a bit of attention. Despite the results last night, the attention appears well deserved as the team, especially its young starts such as Alex Semin, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green along with Ovechkin (all under 24) showed that they belonged, and made a statement to the NHL that they will be back.

Its never an easy pill to swallow when the season officially ends, especially when it comes courtesy of an OT power play goal... But, I do not want to make excuses or mean to sound bitter, b/c these Capitals have been a truly amazing story this year - while I had no realistic dreams of a Stanley Cup, I just simply didn't want this exciting run to end last night... I couldn't be more proud of these guys and their new bench boss... Faux is correct in saying that the Caps will be back "Rocking the Red" again next season... Cheers to a remarkable turn around season! LET'S GO CAPS!
I guess dlyjoe was simply paraphrasing for me... That's really what I meant to say... Thank you, Sir...
1) We actually missed having djoe comment for such a long time. He is always so eloquent. We understand your angst, but if it were the NHL who were behind the bad officiating you'd have to think Bettman would have preferred a Montreal-Rangers series and Penguin-capitals second round
