Calling Out Slovaks!!!

Message to all Slovakian hockey players in the NHL: "When are you guys going to make ANY positive impact for your team in ANY playoff series..." In watching the Rangers-Thrashers these three pitiful games, it has occurred to me that Slovaks tend to tuck their tails between their legs and cower in the corners during the months of April and May... Marian Hossa, a truly gifted player, is a -4 or -5 in this series with maybe 4 shots on goal... His annual disappearing act is alive and well - and, isn't this the main reason Ottawa dealt him? This BAD Hossa got me thinking... I actually could not think of ANY natural born Slovak who has ever distinguished himself during the playoffs... Zdeno Chara also comes to mind... He was laughable last year versus Buffalo, after having a Norris Trophy caliber season... Palffy, Gaborik, Demitra? Maybe I am overlooking someone, and if I am, could one of you viewers bring it to my attention?

If I didn't read it here I'd of thought this Xenophobic jibberish were from Don(I hate Europeans) Cherry!
Slovakia should be proud of the huge number of NHL players compared to their miniscule population. Only small minded people like you would notice that some teams struggling in the playoffs happen to have a Slovakian on their roster.
Who will you target next? Finnish goalies?

No Xenophobia at play here at all - just a well thought out observation... And, I am still waiting to hear about that stellar Slovakian playoff performance...

With regard to Finnish goalies, Miikka Kiprusoff has shown himself to be a more than adequate playoff backstop... However, even YOU would have to admit that Kari Lehtonen's play leaves MUCH to be desired...

1) Wow, Antz, looks like Lloyd tore ya a new one there! However, we looked into your post and don't necessarily find it has merit. However we don't believe it deserved the nasty admonishment that Lloyd dished out.
2) Looking at stats of some of the more notable Slovaks in the playoffs reads like this:
Hossa:GP 54 Points 33
Zednik: GP 46 Points 26
Chara: GP 45 Points 14 (defenseman)
Demitra GP 69 Points 45
Gaborik GP 21 Points 19
Satan GP 54 points 36
Bondra GP 80 Points 56
Statsny GP 93 Points 105
Mikita GP 155 Points 150
3) While the more contemporary players as a whole don't have Earth shattering stats, they are respectable and probably undeserving of being singled out.

Thanks Faux for your comments and actually looking up the facts. Slovaks as a group are NOT responsible for teams losing. That's idiotic!
I'm 1/2 Slovak on my mother's side. The family is from Kmarno province in southern Slovakia.
I got annoyed with that Ant person because I've been hearing a lot of shit from Czechs and how they are dominating, etc.

Stastny and Mikita are the ONLY two you can hang your hat on... Where is the TEAM success of the others? Mikita is the ONLY one with a ring, correct?

Hello? The Czechs ARE dominating...

Czechs are dominating nothing! With all the huge number of players they have over here only Jagr was in the top 30 in scoring this year! Thats pathetic!
By the way the days of supposed Czech goalie dominence is OVER! Other than Hasek they all are chokers! Why not a post on that? Vokun, Chemanek, Hnilicka, Prusek, Turek, etc all were heralded as great goalies yet did and have done NOTHING!
Lets see how you spin that one Ant boy!

1) Interesting take on Czech goalies Lloyd. We believe that Hasek alone counts for a lot. Slovakia has yet to produce a goalie of any significance (The jury is still out on Budaj)
2) The Czech did win a gold medal in 98, and have quite a few significantly talented players, though admittedly it was a down year on the scoring side for them.
3) Much like we believe its unfair to single put Slovaks as chokers in the playoffs, its unfair to try to diminish Czech accomplishments
