May 17th Thoughts

1) Its inevitable. A team goes down 3-0 in the playoffs and sure enough we hear about the 1942 Wings and/or the 1975 Islanders. With the near impossible facing teams, they have little else to use to try to feel they have a chance at a come back. There's a reason that there have been so few miracles like the 2 alluded to. Its simply very difficult to win 4 strait from one team in the playoffs. The Senators just found this out last night. Despite outplaying the Sabres in 3 strait games they inevitably came out a bit flat last night. The Sabres to their credit took advantage of this and less than stellar goaltending of Emery to stave off what we feel is their inevitable defeat.
2) Pronger has been suspended by the league for one game. One has to wonder IF the referees and linesmen had somehow made the correct call to begin with(Penalized Pronger and NOT Neidermayer) if a suspension would even have been handed down. Some have speculated that this was a bit of a mia culpa on the part of the league to get it right, even if its a game late. Certainly the Wings won't mind. Holmstrom will play tonight while the Ducks have to go without one of their best players. Tonight will be a true test of the Ducks mettle. A real Cup team overcomes setbacks of this nature and rises to the occasion. If the Wings win tonight, you can be assured of a Detroit-Ottawa Finals!

1)Wow! That's really all we can say to this newbie to our blog.
2) Why not delete the obscenity laced responses? Comic relief! They are VERY funny. To use his own advice; Don't take any of his nonsense seriously. Thanks for the laugh Dlyjoe!

I haven't heard the word "Dickhead" used in about 20 years...

Pronger deserved the one game suspension, the refs did make the wrong call, or might have been smart to call both Ducks, Neidermayer the Lesser with a charge and Pronger with a 5 and a game. The league is getting serious about head shots, Campbell could not let this latest high hit go unpunished.

1) Yes, Antz. It has been a decade or more for us as well! That's why it was so funny!
2) We agree with Joe. There is NO place for head shots. While we love good clean hitting and the occasional scrap, we don't want cheap shots!

Not to be a broken record, but guess who wins tonight? The team that gets the better goaltending.
Last night Emery sucked, and the Senators lose.
I'll put some Leu (Romanian money) on the team with the goalie with the better save %.

Ya gotta love the LEU...

What ya gotta love is the Sabres bowing out in 5!! So much for Faux's Sabres in 7! Not even close! Any other wisdom to share? I can't wait to hear how this was an NHL conspiracy to keep the Sabres out of the Cup as payback for having to keep the franchise afloat or maybe it was to guarantee a Canadian club in the finals!

Hey 'shuck' - refresh my memory because I can't seem to find YOUR playoff predictions.

1) No conspiracies, or anything untoward in the Sabres series. Yes, we thought they were going to win it all. They definitely had the talent, BUT lacked the intangibles to win.
2) Was it coaching? Partly, but they also showed a profound lack of grit and leadership in the entire playoffs. Drury not withstanding, too many guys seemed to be floating. They will be back, but changes need to be made.
