The Greedy One Returns!

1) We are of course referring sarcastically to Wayne Gretzky. The Hall of Famer, and former chief ambassador to the game for the NHL is apparently back in the fold. Did anyone know he was gone? Well, if you were wondering TGO was owed a few million in the Phoenix deal. If you recall, in addition to being WELL overpaid to coach (poorly) the team, he was also given a small piece of the action (ownership) Evidently, despite being paid millions upon millions to coach (MUCH more than anyone else despite a less than stellar track record) when the team declared bankruptcy, and the NHL subsequently came in to salvage the franchise Gretzky felt he should still be compensated for his ownership piece once the team is sold.

 2) The NHL seeing how the other owner(s) were not going to get a similar deal, balked at the prospect of having to dole out additional $$ to Wayne. However, instead of keeping his Faux-nice guy image and be a good NHL citizen, Gretzky decided that if he wasn't given his $$ he wasn't going to be a public figure endorsing the league that allowed him to be come a multi-millionaire. He was rarely, if ever seen in an NHL rink for the past few years Things began to thaw two years ago when the NHL announced it would do a weekly show from Gretzky's over rated restaurant in Toronto. Giving him millions in fees (and boosting the sagging business in the process) The NHL did not have to do that, but we're told that the league had made a judgement that having one of the all time greatest players in their good graces was worth a few million it would take .

3) Some loyal readers may recall we have been the only outlet to tell it like it is with respect to Gretzky. As you can read for yourselves a 5 year old post--->  http://newfaux.blogspot.com/2009/11/gretzky-paid-off.html    Fast forward to this past week when Gretzky restarted his public Faux good guy image once again for everyone to see. He made an uncomfortable appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Later he would be spotted at the various venues where the 35 out door games are scheduled to assist in promotion. Does anyone believe he's doing this for any other reason than he wants the NHL gravy train  to continue.  While there is NO denying that 99 was one of the all-time greats, on the ice, few other than us here at Fauxrumors have had the balls to say what other bloggers/writers know about TGO (The Greedy One)

Week 17- Results

For the day/night we went 6-4 to bring the season totals to 124-64 for a .660 winning %.  Look for week 18 next Saturday when 11 games will be contested.
Look this week for a post we will be dropping on The Great One who re-emerged recently.  Spoiler alert, it won't be flattering.

Is Sochi Safe?

1) That's the multi-billion ruble question for the Russians as they prepare to host the 2014 Winter Olympics. Despite it being 7 years in the making and probably the most money EVER spent on a winter games (Chinese 2008 Summer games still spent more) still has massive security questions.   We are a mere 2 weeks from the Opening Ceremonies when hundreds of thousands of athletes and spectators alike will gather in Fisht Olympic Stadium to commence the games.  Yet we are now hearing of possible and what we are told VERY credible terrorists threats

2) Among these are various 'Black Widows' who we are told are already positioned, ready to strike. They are women who have recently become widowed when their terrorist husbands died in ' the cause' so they are very motivated to use their own deaths to make their spouses deaths more meaningful. As we have seen in the past, if someone is set on dying, there is little you can really do to prevent some kind of damage/destruction. The question will be how much and where/when it occurs NOT if. Our sources tell us the Russians fully expect at least an incident or two to take place either immeadiatly before the opening ceremonies or during the games themselves. However, they are hoping that their secutity is such that those incidents are small and tale place well away from Sochi and the various venues of events. Most likely in towns/cities with less security(softer targets) due to   they not haing any foreign presence.

3) That being said, we would NOT put it past these desperate murderers to have at least one sleeper cell already in place at a major target that could inflict significant damage/death to embarass President Putin. He has almost guarenteed that the games would not be affected negatively from any outside (or inside) terrorists. Many athletes from outside Russia are telling their families to stay home and watch on TV. The US State Department has issued a travel alert. No country is pulling out, but you can bet your bottom dollar (ruble) that any issues that keep fans from traveling to Russia will hurt the positive  impact of the games on the Russian economy.  Stay tuned.  ( We will have our Olympic Hockey prediction post in a week or so)

Why was Bobby Ryan Snubbed?

1) There is absolutely NO Question that Ottawa Senators star winger Bobby Ryan got shafted by the US Olympic hockey selection committee. When it comes to choosing who will make up an Olympic hockey roster, there are bound to be snubs no matter who is chosen. However in the case of Ryan, the rationale of leaving home the second-leading goal scorer among American-born NHL players since 2008-09 is so idiotic/inane/dumb it's likely to cause headaches and blackouts.Only Phil Kessel has more goals than Ryan over this period

2) Our readers may recall that Ryan made the 2010 U.S. Olympic team as a 22-year-old, when his alleged skating shortcomings and inability to play the penalty kill didn't prevent his inclusion. While he didn't produce during the Vancouver Games, delivering only one goal in six contests, you'd have to look at him today. In that he brings a more impressive body of work over the past 4 years in addition to having that Olympic experience he gained four in 2010.

3)  "I think he's sleepy. I think he skates sleepy," offers one member of the selection committee.  What the hell does that mean??   Are his eyes closed? Does he have his arms extended, as if he were sleep walking? Is he narcoleptic? Is he collapsing on the ice?  I've always thought if someone can do something well in their sleep, they're very good at that particular thing. I'd rather have the sleepy 30-goal scorer than the caffeinated 20-goal scorer any day of the week. No?

4) The potential big downside to those comments that became public about Ryan is what does the committee do if a forward or two suffers an injury in the next five weeks and can't go to Sochi? After bashing him would they dare ask him to join them after all?  One well placed insider tell Fauxrumors If I were Ryan I'd tell them to just stick it!  He is too good a person to do that and despite being hurt by the way this whole mess transpired I would be shocked if he declined an injury replacement invite.Stay tuned. We will have our Olympic Hockey Preview post in the up coming weeks
